The VHPD 22nd Annual NNO Event
The 2017 National Night Out event was held on Tuesday, August 1, in Hartmann Park on Oakwood Rd.It was our 22nd year of participating in National Night Out. We had free food and ice cream, games to play, several inflatables to jump on, face painting, a water spray and enough music to get everyone moving. The bookmobile from the Cook Memorial Library was also on hand as were the Vernon Hills Queens and State Representative Carol Sente.
As is always the case, we had plenty of food to go around. The crowd seemed slightly larger than in past years. This was perhaps due in part to the increased involvement of Chick-fil-A. They graciously cooked up and served over 2,500 chicken sandwiches. (That's A LOT of chicken.) We also cooked up 720 hot dogs (which were gone in approximately 2 hours). By the time the event ended, we had also gone through 900 bottles of water, over 1,100 cans of pop, 160 fruit juices, 1,400 bags of snacks and 600 ice cream bars.
As always, NNO is completely free and is meant for our residents to come out and get to know their neighbors, meet the police and (most of all) have fun!
13th Annual Volleyball Matches
Two Vernon Hills Police Department teams took on teams from Target, Peacock Car Wash, the Depke Juvenile Complex and the Vernon Hills Summer Celebration Committee in some (friendly) volleyball matches. Not to brag, but we're proud to say that the Police Department teams were a combined 4-0!!
Trying to pull off an event like NNO would not be possible without the assistance of many, many volunteers. Huge thanks goes out to some our Citizen's Police Academy graduates and other great Vernon Hills residents who graciously donated their time to help serve food, help with the children's games, distribute children's tattoos and take the pictures shown below.
We will do it all again on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. We hope to see you then. In the meantime, you can call 847-247-4889 for further information or if you have any questions or suggestions.
